AREA Scorekeeping/2nd Referee Clinics
Access the clinic roster here: SURVA Clinic Roster
A list of scorekeeping clinics will be posted here when they have been scheduled.
Each year Sun Country makes an effort to train and qualify scorekeepers and second officials to assist in officiating tournaments both in and out of our Region.
The Region will hold One Region-sponsored clinic in each of the larger cities base on membership. Those cities are Albuquerque, Amarillo, El Paso, Lubbock and Midland. These Region-sponsored clinics are designed for the smaller clubs (those with 3 or less teams) in order to keep the member attendees manageable. The cap for these clinics will be held at 100. Pre-registration is required in order to plan for sufficient clinicians and materials. The clinic roster form is attached or may be found on the clinic page of the Sun Country website. Please contact your area rep for times and dates for the Region-sponsored clinics.
For the Region-sponsored clinics, it is important that you send no more than 4 members from each team.
In addition to the Region-sponsored clinics, the larger clubs are encouraged to hold their own clinics with Region approved clinician(s). Clubs may combine with another club or clubs to help offset costs.
Region sponsored clinic
Limited to first 100 enrollment
Registration on the official enrollment form only
Five dollars ($5) per person if pre-registered Ten dollars ($10) at the door
Private Club Clinic
Clubs will be responsible for: meeting place, video equipment, copies for clinic materials, pencil or pens for sample score sheets and clinician(s) fees and travel (over 20 miles is .40 cents per mile round trip). Clubs may contact the Officials Chair, Rory Arisumi, for a list of approved clinicians or contact the clinician(s) of their choice. Rory may be contacted at survaoc@yahoo.com
Clinician Fees
The Region has determined that maximum number one clinician can adequately teach is fifty. Therefore, clinics with 50 or more enrollment must provide two clinicians.
Clinician cost is as follows:
25 attendees or below is $100 above 25 attendees is $4 each
Minimum is $100 per clinician Maximum is $200 per clinician
Example: 40 attendance times $4 equals $160 for one clinician or $200 for two
Example: 60 attendance times $4 equals $240 total or $120 per clinician
Certifying Scorekeepers and Second Referees
This season, scorekeepers can be certified by National or Junior National officials at Sun Country tournaments. The certifying official will issue a certification card to the scorekeeper when they have shown exceptional ability to handle the USAV score sheet. The official will then notify the Officials Chair or Commissioner who will then update the membership to scorekeeper qualified which will in turn show on the membership and team roster the scorekeeper’s certification.
Who should attend scorekeeping clinics?
Our region requires all players 14 and under who will be keeping score and/or working at the scorekeeping table to attend a scorekeeping clinic each year. Also any player or coach new to USA Volleyball should also attend if at any time during the year they will need to perform scorekeeping duties. Area clinics will be scheduled if possible for open attendance and clubs may also request clinics from the Officials Chair. Please bring last year's rulebooks and writing materials.
Due to excessive meeting room expenses, some areas will not be holding area scorekeeping/referee clinics. Individual clubs will be expected to host their own team clinic with a SURVA approved clinician. Clubs may schedule separately or invite other clubs to help defray the costs. Contact your Area Rep for rulebooks and the Officials Chair, Rory Arisumi, for a list of the approved clinicians and fees.
IMPACT Clinics
A list of this season's early Impact clinics can be found on the Impact page.
All adult bench personel having interaction with junior players must be IMPACT certified. If you have not been IMPACT certified in the past please contact Russ Walker at russ@lobo.net or Jim Giacomazzi at jimg@wbu.edu for certification. Russ is located in the Albuquerque area and Jim is in Amarillo.
IMPACT Webinars
National IMPACT Clinic Webinars will meet the prerequisite certification for coaching a USAV Junior Program. The IMPACT Online Webinar Schedule will provide a list of scheduled IMPACT Clinic Webinars. The five-hour IMPACT Clinic Webinars are offered in either a one-day and two-day online format, scheduled typically twice a month (or more) from September thru June each year in order to provide ample opportunities for coaches to complete their certification. The cost varies from least expensive at beginning of season, to higher cost at the end of the Junior Volleyball season (usually from $50-$100). The five-hour online webinar is designed to supplement the need for IMPACT certification that the USAV Regions cannot cover, and saving coaches in remote areas travel time and cost. This format requires completion of an online test with a 90% or better passing grade to complete the certification.
